Blood Tests & Investigations

Blood Tests

All blood tests must be requested by a doctor, either within the GP surgery or, if outside, a requesting letter will be required.  Results usually take up to two weeks. For certain blood tests, you may be asked to fast from midnight, but you can still take medications and drink water.

If you are requesting blood tests from a private consultant/clinic, please note that not all blood tests may be available to us, and additional costs may be charged.

We do not have dedicated paediatric services, and we do not routinely take children’s bloods.  Children's blood tests can be booked with CHI Crumlin directly.

ECG

ECG testing is performed on site by a nurse at the request of the GP. If an ECG is requested by a doctor not in the practice, a letter requesting same will be required.

24-hour BP Monitor

The nurses manage the 24 hour blood pressure monitor. Our GP will refer you for this and there is usually a waiting list for this service and you will be contacted about the monitor a few weeks in advance of using it. Some local pharmacies also offer the service which may be at a more suitable time and location for you. Please advise us if you would prefer to do that.
